The final product is your paper identifying what you believe is an Homeland Security topic that can secure your country/community. Now you must demonstrate the relevant constitutional issues that are imperative to your focus on that public safety issue. My master’s project will be looking at the ever so large topic of the Opioid epidemic. After taking a course in American Politics and Government and learning about lobbying and how lobbyist move from the government side of degrading pharmaceutical companies to moving through the revolving door to supporting the pharmaceutical companies because of higher pay. The power pharmaceutical companies have over the government is sickening. Also, coming from a county with an extremely high death rate for opioid overdoses, killing more people than automobile accidents, it astounds me that no action has been taken to fix or even stabilize this issue. From a young age I have seen many people struggle with this addiction. I made the conscience decision to eventually work for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This epidemic is growing so fast and unfortunately, I don’t see the government making many strides of implementing any regulations to fix these issues. This crisis has claimed almost 400,000 live from 1999-2017 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Although DEA has done a lot the government withholds them from so much more. The biggest issue we have is that there are no limitations on pharmaceutical companies
