HIST102 The Atlantic Slave Trade and the Enlightenment

HIST102 The Atlantic Slave Trade and the Enlightenment

Read the two primary source documents under Course Documents. The first is an excerpt from Olaudah Equiano’s autobiography (1789) and the second is an excerpt from the baron d’Holbach’s System of Nature (1770).

Equiano was an African writer whose experiences as a slave led him to become involved in the anti-slavery movement. Holbach was a European Enlightenment thinker who was an atheist.

Choose one quote from each document and paste that quote along with a short response for each explaining why you think that quote is interesting or important and what it can tell us about the Atlantic Slave Trade and the Enlightenment.

Your response should be between 200-300 words and must include specific references to the readings and critical thinking to receive full credit.
