State the theory, its premise, and explain why you believe it fits. 4) Law enforcement response—Identify how law enforcement responded to the organized crime group or individual you selected including any specific laws that were used to convict. If you can, identify specific law enforcement agencies that responded and how they define organized crime. Identify the challenges that law enforcement faces or faced in dealing with the individual or group you selected. 5) Organized Crime attributes—the textbook was written by Abadinsky and our class notes and discussions identify eight attributes of organized crime. What defines your topic as an organized crime? In your analysis, use the aforementioned eight attributes and determine if this is organized crime or crime that is organized. 1. Include an introduction paragraph; this should briefly tell the reader what you are going to be writing about. The main idea is to grab the reader’s attention and provide a roadmap of what is contained in your paper. 2. Acceptable sources for your research include: books, journal articles, magazine and news stories, and websites with historical information (http://www.fbi.gov for example). DO NOT cite WIKIPEDIA for your paper. Best sources of information will be searches via NOVA Library Services online or with the help of a librarian. Another good source is http://www.googlescholar and websites of legitimate news outlets. Of course, you can use regular search engines like http://www.google.com but be careful with regular internet searches since this information is not controlled and is freely available to anyone. The advantage to the database searches noted above is they focus on your area of interest, are more likely from reputable publishers, and will probably save you time. 3. Include a conclusion paragraph. This is where you briefly summarize what you have learned and include what additional information you would research if you had more time. 4. Length of paper—target should be a minimum of three pages and maximum of five not including the reference page and or any additional material such as appendices. Typing—please use Times New Roman 12 font and double space. A cover page is optional; a table of contents is not necessary.
